Finished Pieces
Perfect is the enemy of done, as they say. With that in mind, I know none of these pieces are perfect, but they are pieces that I consider finished and that I am actually proud of.
I use a combination of Photoshop, pencils (graphite and colour), acrylic paint, ink, watercolour, and any other material that catches my eye.
Character illustration for my upcoming book, of my scientist character, Findabhair. I took inspiration from the legendary Alphonse Mucha, and wanted to create a piece outside of my usual colour palette.
Japanese tattoo inspired print, with a heavy lunar themed magical girl influence.
Character design in my style, D&D character illustration commission of a tiefling sorcerer.
Japanese tattoo inspired print of a serpent nestled among chrysanthemums (representing longevity, grace and happiness) and peonies (representing wealth, prosperity, and good fortune). In Japanese tattooing, the snake symbolises rebirth and transformation.
A piece created for Courtney Weber's book "The Morrigan: Celtic Goddess of Magick and Might". Depicting The Mórrígan in her death omen aspect, standing ominously before an Ogham engraved grave stone, her gaze penetrates the soul. Painted in acrylics on Fabriano A2 paper, and finished with fineliner pens.
The Notorious B.V.M. Growing up in a Catholic household, the virgin Mary was occasionally referred to as "BVM" or "Blessed Virgin Mary". Being a blasphemous little rebel, I combined it with the Notorious BIG, and made a poster inspired by Biggie's most iconic album cover. The piece is originally done in pencil, and finished in Photoshop. This piece is purely intended for the pun, and not intended to cause offence or harm.
A digital illustration of a retro style witch, with purple Marcel wave hair, piercings, and stockings. She is flirty, playful and confident.
What could be cuter than a chibi baby Baphomet?
Anime inspired illustration of the bean sídhe (banshee) from Irish legend. Her dress is based on a 19th Century burial shroud. She is surrounded by hawthorne blossoms, said to be a symbol of death and the sídhe. She carries the traditional comb of legend, and wears a Bronze age Celtic torque.
Crucial advice to all who would wear a corset - put on your boots *first*, or learn the hard way!
A vector illustration of a Japanese tattoo style peony
An anime style self-portrait of myself and my ragamuffin of a cat, Sootica Blackstar
A slightly cheeky depiction of the Adepta Repentia from a certain space fantasy themed game.
A piece I called "Irish Summer". After the Anime Evolution Dublin project didn't go ahead, I used the character I had created as the mascot to make this piece. She is a kitsune or fox girl, wearing a traditional style Irish dancing costume, dealing with our traditionally beautiful Irish weather!
